Nursery Wall Decor Inspiration

My biggest struggle in decorating is wall decor and wall art – I tend to feel like so much of what people put on their walls is put there to fill the space, not because it fits the space. I think that feeling of mine has caused me to have an opposite problem – wall decor paralysis, if you will. I’ve never successfully gone out looking for something to put on our walls – it either comes to me gradually or things stay bare.  Another issue with my wall art dilemma? I tend to stay away from themes (sports, flowers, animals, etc) when it comes to a kid’s room and prefer to focus on a feeling.

When the nursery was Thomas’s room, I convinced myself that the board and batten was all I needed. But now that I’ve added more color? I feel the need to balance that color out on the walls. And I’m drawing a blank on what to do that with – and how to do it without distracting from my beloved board and batten.

Here’s the nursery as it was a few months ago – as you know I’ve added a chair, more color and am in the process of working on a new crib (Thomas took his crib with him to his bigger room).

My very favorite solution is the alphabet above the plate rail, a la this room by Sarah Richardson. But I worry that the alphabet thing’s a little bit played out. Thoughts?

I pinned this room because of the board and batten at a similar height to the nursery board and batten – and I do like the look of a name above the crib. But again, is that trend played out?

And we all know I love myself a monogram. I think a big initial would be fun should McKiddle be a boy, and a more classic monogram would be elegant for a girl. So obviously that’s a post baby decision. And then that would require us to pick a boy’s name. We’re totally going to be those parents who are submitting our child’s name on day 10 of its life (the maximum time you’re given to name your kid in Colorado).

More monograms – this one feels more feminine to me. I’d skip the flowers behind it. Baby steps, friends, baby steps.

As this post has evolved, I’m realizing I’m drawn to letters and monograms, so maybe I should run with that. But what am I missing? What brilliant nursery wall decor solutions have you seen or put into practice? I’m usually really good at making decisions (well, that whole issue of a boy’s name not withstanding), but right now, this mama needs guidance.
