My Top 10 Most Used Apps

best free iphone apps

I love iPhone App posts, don’t you? I always come away from them with an app that changes the way I do things, so I thought I’d share my ten favorite apps. The catch? You all know I’m a little bit budget minded – so here are my top 10 favorite FREE apps.

It’s amazing how much I now rely on a little device that I didn’t even own two years ago. And it’s amazing how much things that used to be such a part of my daily life have been changed by the iPhone. There are certain things I still do old school – like grocery lists and calendars. Those I haven’t been able to take mobile yet, I feel the need to cross things out and add them in my own order. If you guys have great apps for those, I’d love to hear about them. But here are my top 10 most used apps.

1. My Fitness Pal - This is probably the app I spend the most time on. I’m a little bit obsessed with it, but not in a bad way. I log everything I eat in MyFitnessPal – I lost all of the weight I gained during my pregnancy with Nell within the first 6 weeks postpartum, but I also started my pregnancy with Nell 10 pounds heavier than I like to be. But in September I committed to losing those 10 pounds, and logging everything in My Fitness Pal, I’ve lost about 18 pounds over five months – I weigh less now than I did when B and I got married – and that was what I thought was my happy/skinny weight. Love that! Now I’m onto toning because those babies shift things around :) .

2. Camera Awesome – I have an iPhone 4, and the image quality with the built-in camera is less than awesome. But, I always have the iPhone with me – the DSLR? Not so much. On the hunt for a better camera for the iPhone – and preferably a free one – I found Camera Awesome. It lets you click the area you want to expose for, has a focus lock, a few basic editing features, and a self timer. Love this app – it’s slow to start, which is annoying when you want to catch a moment quickly, but I love it all the same.

3. Red Stamp – A fun little app for sending cheer to someone, a quick text thank you note, and so much more.

4, 5 & 6 – Instagram, Facebook and Pinterest – No real explanation needed here, right? I’d love for you to follow me: Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest.

7. Google Maps – Apple Maps are awful, Google released an iPhone version of their Maps app a few months ago and it’s infinitely better than Apple’s version. Turn-by-turn voice directions, and they actually send you to the right place. That’s a novel idea, huh?

8. ThisLife - You already read about my ThisLife experience, but their iPhone app makes it easy to back up my iPhone photos, too.

9 & 10. Pic Stitch and InstaQuote – Just fun apps for making a collage or adding text to your photos.

What are your favorite apps?

  1. I use Ziplist for grocery lists. It categorizes items by section of the store and you can sort the lust by store if you shop at multiple places. Best of all you can sync it with someone else so I can add items while my husband shops! I use it online and on my phone to maximize the app’s effectiveness.

  2. you need to get wunderlist- its changed my life and now i don’t have post it notes all over my purse for lists that won’t happen overnight or over the next month! you will love it :) like erin with ziplist- you can sync with other people and also do online! I LOVE IT :)

    • Thanks Melissa! I just added it and so far it looks pretty cool – definitely better than others I’ve tried!

      • yay! glad you like it! its pretty basic- but it gets the job done :)
and i’m downloading my fitness pal for after this baby arrives- wedding weight would be amazing!!

  3. Way to go on the weight loss, Emily. That is awesome. I maybe need to look into that app as the winter has not been kind on my weight and exercise. (Like how I blame winter and not myself.)
I am looking for a great meal planning/shopping app and haven’t been too happy with the few I have tried at this point. And like you, I need them to be free.
I really like using the craigs list app. You can even have it alert you if something you are looking for gets listed.

  4. Ohh, I love this list! I need to check out Red Stamp!!

  5. I thought you looked tinier! You look awesome dude! Meanwhile, I don’t have an iphone so I’m clearly living in the dinosaur age. But my subpar Droid does let me get a few apps ;) The one that has changed my life has been a period tracker. Before if asked, I would have zero idea about any timing. Now I’m all oh, I got that. Usually with a sassy finger shake too while I’m saying it. Can you picture that?
