Making Dreams Come True

Every morning when I go into Thomas’s room to get him out of his crib I say, “Good morning! Did you have good dreams last night?” Usually he says, “I good dreams!” and we go about our morning routine. A month ago, my mom and dad had tickets to the Rockies home opener, and Thomas – being a baseball, or any sport really, fan – wanted to discuss his Papa and Gigi’s Rockies attendance for weeks. On the day of the home opener, I went to get him up from his nap and the second I opened the door he said, “I dreams Rockies. Yay Rockies!”. We thought that was the end of the baseball “dreams”, until I went to get T up last Wednesday and he had made up (or was reciting – who am I to judge?) an elaborate dream: “I good dreams! I Rockies game wif Papa. And Gigi Rockies. Go Rockies!”

And people, we like to make dreams come true over here. So B checked his company’s ticket availability (his company has great seats reserved for about 10 games a month on a first come first serve basis for employees at super rates), saw that the only home games we could really count on getting to before we’ll be on baby watch we’re last weekend, and purchased tickets for us – and Gigi and Papa. They were an integral part of the dream, after all.

Thomas talked about the upcoming game for 48 hours straight, and happily sat on his Papa’s lap chatting about baseball for 7 innings until we took our tired little baseball fan home.

If only we could make his dreams come true this easily forever. But I’ll just savor these sweet moments of 22 month old expectations.

This was on the top of my bucket list for our final weeks as a family of three, too. Next up on the list? Taking our little golfer out for a round of mini-golf (or 3 holes, we’ll see how it goes).

  1. that is so cute. he looks so grown up – i can’t believe it!

that’s gotta be so fun as a parent – to see him develop interests and get genuinely excited about something like that – and what good parents to make it come true :)

  2. I truly don’t think a post could warm my heart any more than this one does. This is just too cute for words and such a great memory!

  3. So fun! What a great memory for you all!

Also, I think it is HYSTERICAL to talk to kiddos about their dreams! Lizzy’s usually involve either a polar bear who drove her to Target, or Swiper from Dora.

  4. That is pretty much the sweetest thing EVER!

  5. i just have to say, from your snippets, he has excellent speech! :) xoxo

  8. Sweet boy! Don’t you wish they could stay just that little…
Great memories for sure!… and I feel a presentiment of making a
    family tradition here.
