Watching the speed skating relay last night:
E: Hey, why did that guy grab that other guy’s knee? Is that allowed?
B: I don’t know, Em.
E: Whoa, that guy just pushed the other guy! That’s not allowed!
B: It’s a relay, Em.
E: Oh. Which one are we?
B: I think we’re the light blue and black in last place.
E: Why would we be light blue and black?
B: I don’t know, Em.
E: No, I’m sure we’re red, white and blue – because those are our colors.
B: Not sure.
E: Seriously, why would we be light blue and black, that has nothing to do with us.
B: Yep, we’re definitely light blue and black, now we’re in second.
E: Are those guys who crashed out?
B: I don’t think so.
E: How come all these guys are just skating around the ice like this?
Silence.
E: It just looks like they’re going to run into each other, is that a good idea?
Silence.
E: Why are we just hanging out in second place and not even trying to get first? That’s not very impressive.
Silence
E: How come you’re ignoring me?
B: Emily, you’re asking me questions about a sport I know absolutely nothing about.
E: Mostly I’m asking about their costume decisions. I like the plaid jackets the snow boarders wear, they’re red white and blue. That makes sense.
And there was silence for the remainder of the race. I love the Olympics. B, maybe not so much.
That sounds SO much like the convos between me and my hubby when we’re watching sports. He gets so annoyed with me. I laughed at this!
I like the plaid the snowboarders wear too- I didn’t know plaid was cool. Also- I love the fact that they have snow-pants that makes it look like they are sagging their pants. so hot.
Too funny! It’s hard to tell who’s who out there on the ice, they need some sort of cheat sheet on the screen. Also, did it make you nervous to watch them take corners when hands got very close to other’s skate blades? I had to stop watching…
we had about the same convo last night about speed skating
This is exactly what happens in my house too.
Curling is fun to watch cause we giggle when they scream Harder Harder!!
and I like to say ‘goooo scrubbers!!
Wow I’ve had almost that exact same conversation with my husband! I don’t get the costume choices and I don’t understand the guys that are just skating around and not actually racing. It just doesn’t make sense!
hahaha! great convo
Oh, you make me laugh! I think I had almost the exact same conversation with my husband!! I even said, “Whoa!! That guy pushed the other guy! Is that allowed in the OLYMPICS?!!?” I also kept wondering (aloud) why they were speed skating in a circle. Wouldn’t it be more interesting if they skated in a figure-eight or some other curvy track?
that sounds JUST like my husband!! he hates a bunch of questions when we are watching a show or a movie. but i am relentless! I am especially bad with LOST.
haha, this made me laugh. The exact same thing happened to me the other night. Finally I said “Am I firing too many questions at you”…the BF said “umm, no, I just can’t answer anything about downhill skiing”
I don’t ever comment, but I do enjoy reading!

THIS is US. It’s IDENTICAL. Last night I kept pestering Torsten with questions about short track vs. speed skating and he was getting SO ANNOYED. But I REALLY don’t understand why speed skating exists. Short track is just like a much more interesting version of speed skating. Plus, they wear helmets and that seems like a good idea to me.
Lol…at least you watched. As soon as the speed skating came on, I fell asleep.
This conversation is hilarious. HIlarious. You crack me up.
I think all sports minded men should be required to take a “Olympics” knowledge course so that they can answer their wives’ questions about it….because almost this exact same thing happened at our house last night. Hilarious. It would solve the problem. I also had questions about the snowboarder’s pants that he did not have an answer for…do their pants have “double butts” so it looks like they are falling off? Anyone?
I loved the snowboarding. Shawn White is awesome and definitely deserves the Gold Metal that he won. Louis Vito in 5th place – no small feat. Too bad he didn’t get a metal too – no falls – just not as daring as White’s snowboarding. I’m glad they added the event to the Winter Olympics. I didn’t have to ask hubby any questions. The commentator did a great job of pointing out all the falls – as if we couldn’t tell!
hahaha- have you seen the jean-like pants the snowboards have? Those are cool.
Bwahahahahaha!!!! We were at Wahoo’s watching the half-pipe that night and I kept wondering out loud why plaid was so popular amongst the US team. Duh, it’s their uniform. Shouldn’t have had that 4th Corona.
I also realized that I was cheering on the speedskaters in red….who turned out to be Canadians. Mr. FC calls them America Jr.
This is why we need to hang out, Em. (So we can discuss the Olympics fashion, I mean, not the Corona’s. Though I’m sure we can bond over that too.)
