Ting-a-Ling

Dare to DIY

It's Cookie Week on the Dare to DIY challenge with Newlywoodwards.  This year my family's reaching into the nostalgia bucket - my grandfather loved Christmas, and more than that he loved traditions.  This is one of my grandpa's favorite Christmas candies - and the one I have always loved best.

Now, I'll admit these aren't the prettiest things.  But they're damn good.  Mr. B - also known as Mr. I don't like sweets and am incapable of gaining weight - devoured these things in an afternoon.  Ting-a-Ling: The candy of champions.

Grandpa Bob's Ting-a-Ling
5 cups of Wheaties
1 pound of Hershey's Milk Chocolate (two of those fabulously sinful giant bars will get you all setup)
2 oz. bittersweet baking chocolate

In a double boiler (or, if you're like me and the idea of storing a double boiler haunted you while registering for your wedding, a pan on top of a pan of boiling water will do the trick) melt the chocolate together.

Pour the Wheaties into the chocolate and mix until the cereal is coated.  Drop in teaspoonfulls onto waxed paper.  Allow to harden for an hour or two.  And enjoy the deliciousness.

Seriously, who knew Wheaties could become something so delicious?   Check out Kim's blog to see everyone else's cookie, bar and candy recipes.

  1. Those look so good. And, pretty easy too?

And, they have Wheaties in them? So that means I can have them for breakfast?

  5. They sound yummy to me - do you think I could do them with Cornflakes, or something gluten free?

  6. Those look insanely good! My great aunt used to make something similar, but she melted in some peanut butter with the chocolate.

  8. I AM like you--no double boilers here! Just one pan in another one. It works very well.

    Those look delicious!

  9. I can't decide if I love these for the fact that they are only 3 ingredients or the fact that they look unbelievably good. Oh, drown anything in chocolate and I'm most likely a fan.

  10. I don't know what you mean when you say they aren't very pretty; that's one of the prettiest pieces of chocolate I've ever seen! Then again, I'm a fan of anything chocolate!
